ASHLAND — A tour of seven historic Center Street homes is being offered by the Ashland Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, May 19 from 2 to 4 p.m.
There are no presale tickets for this event, supportive donations will be accepted at each site. Music will be featured and guests will be welcomed by members of the symphony’s Board of Directors.
The seven sites include the Jenny Wade Bed and Breakfast, 302 Center Street. Established in 2004 by Ken and Diane Hammontree, and decorated with antiques, the home features the unique Lincoln Library; musician Ken Hammontree, piano. Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home, #313, currently owned by Seth and Lindsey Gasche. This 1873 Victorian gem, now being remodeled, has served as a funeral home since 1912.
The Ashland County Historical Society, Manor House, #414, was built in 1859, has been home to historic Ashland families, presidents of Ashland College, a historical education center and is now our historical society; musician Jake Lee, piano.
Trinity Lutheran Church, Myers Home and Gardens, #515. This Italianate house was built in 1915 by P.A.Myers, a local industrialist, and has belonged to the Trinity congregation since 1964; musician Linda Hawk, clarinet.
The Good Shepherd, Clark Home, #622, was built in 1917-18 by the co-founder of Hess and Clark, and is an exquisite example of late Tudor/Jacobean style. Mr. J.L. Clark will be portrayed by retired educator, Dave Kowalka; musician Susan Gregg, piano.
Home of Sarah Rowan, #903. Inhabited by 1895, the house was remodeled in 1913, including a stucco exterior, tapestries and handmade tiles inside, and a music room. Dr. Joseph and Sarah Rowan, both educators, purchased the home in 1969; musician Camden Snively, piano.
The Ashland Theological Seminary, #910. Perfectly replicating Frank Lloyd Wright’s signature “Prairie Style,” the house was built in 1908 by John C. Myers for his family. Donated to Ashland Seminary by the Myers family in 1957, the site has been enlarged over the years and now includes administrative offices, library, the archaeological collection and Bible Museum.
Parking is available at Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home, Trinity Lutheran Church and Ashland Theological Seminary; refreshments will be served at the funeral home, the Good Shepherd and the seminary. Visitors may begin the tour at any of the seven homes and see them in any order.
The Ashland Symphony Orchestra just completed its 48th season. This “Jewel of Ashland County” is the 2018 Culture & Recreation Business of the Year. The symphony welcomes you to this event, celebrating the beauty and history of our community. For more information visit www.ashlandsymphony.org.
