MOUNT VERNON — Shirley V. Hoogstra, J.D., president of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, will be speaking at Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s traditional commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 5, at 10 a.m., to celebrate the graduating of the MVNU Class of 2018. Prior to graduation day, Rev. Kevin Jack, lead pastor of Beavercreek Church of the Nazarene, will speak at the baccalaureate service on Friday, May 4, at 7 p.m.

As CCCU president, Hoogstra combines her zeal for the rule of law and her passion for Christian higher education. The CCCU’s outward-facing work at its intersection with government in Washington, D.C., calls upon Hoogstra’s authentic skills of listening, respecting and influencing leaders as she shares and promotes the importance of Christian colleges and universities as a part of a diverse, pluralistic system of higher education.

After graduating from MVNU in 2006, Rev. Kevin Jack and wife, Bethany, moved to Maysville, Kentucky to be the youth pastor at Maysville Church of the Nazarene. Later they planted CrossPoint Community Church in Maysville with 65 of their closest friends. After a decade of serving in Maysville, Jack became the lead pastor of Beavercreek Church of the Nazarene where he has served since December 2016.
