MOUNT VERNON — If you yell out, “Kramp!” at the Mount Vernon Fire Department, don’t be surprised if two people respond. One is a 10-year MVFD veteran, the other is the newest Mount Vernon firefighter.
Mayor Richard Mavis swore Brayden Kramp in as a Mount Vernon firefighter Wednesday afternoon. Kramp took the oath in front of his parents, Amy and Tom, his girlfriend, Julie Lodahl, and numerous Mount Vernon firefighters, including his brother, Bryan.
“I worked for a little while up in Maumee, Ohio, about a year,” said Kramp. “That was where I got my start.”
For Kramp, a Mount Vernon native, the goal was to join the department in the town he grew up in. “I’ve always kind of wanted to be a Mount Vernon firefighter,” Kramp said. “My brother’s a Mount Vernon firefighter. This was always kind of my goal. I’m loving it.”
Kramp joined the Mount Vernon Fire Department in May.
“It’s been 10 months in the making since Brayden started with us. Your year probation is coming up so we just wanted to make sure we were going to keep you,” joked Fire Chief Chad Christopher. “Brayden’s been great. He’s been a great addition to the Fire Department family. He fits right in with his brother; we knew he was going to get right in there. We couldn’t be more happy.”
Christopher added that Kramp brought a lot to the table in terms of his firefighter and paramedic experience. “We hope to have many years with (Brayden) at the fire department.”
