MOUNT VERNON — Once again, the employees of Ariel Corp. did their part to bring Christmas cheer to local children. On Wednesday, Ariel employees donated five boxes filled with toys to the Mount Vernon Fire Department for the department’s Toys for Tots program.
Calyn Posey of Ariel Corp.’s human resources department said the boxes represented 217 toys.
“I think people just really like to give back to the community,” she said. “So when they are out shopping, they just pick them up for the cause.”
Ariel Corp. employees contribute to many causes throughout the year, but Posey said the Toys for Tots program is special.
“I think it’s great that the fire department heads it up. We just really believe in helping local kids, the ones who can’t get toys for Christmas,” she said.
“Ariel’s support for the Toys for Tots program has been outstanding every year. This year it showed again by the number of boxes,” said Fire Chief Chad Christoper. “We can’t be any more thankful for Ariel employees and what they do for our community. This is just another event that shows their support for our community. They’ve been a partner ever since we started the program.
“This year has been another outstanding year for Toys for Tots,” he continued. “Every child is going to have a wonderful Christmas provided by the Toys for Tots program. This year there has not been any shortage of toys coming in from the community. Every year it seems to grow. Even through some of the last few years when there’s been an economic decline, you wouldn’t have known it by the support for the Toys for Tots program.”
