MOUNT VERNON – As summer comes to an end political races will be heating up prior to the November 2017 election. According to the Knox County Board of Elections the following candidates and entities have filed petitions to be on the ballot. The deadline for voter registration is October 10th and election day is set for November 7. To register contact the Knox County Board of Elections at 740-393-6716.
The following are the contested races:
Mount Vernon City Council At-Large (three to be elected)
Knox County 911, Sales and use tax at a rate of 0.25% for 5 years for the operation of a 911 system.
Knox County Health Dept., Property tax (Replacement) 0.80 mill for 5 years for the operating expenses of the Knox County Health Dept.
Ashland County Joint Vocational School District, Property Tax (Renewal) 0.50 mills for permanent improvements
Martinsburg Village, Property Tax (Renewal) 5 mills, 5 years for current expenses
Middlebury Township, Property Tax (Renewal) 2 mills, 5 years for roads, streets, and bridges
Milford Township, Property Tax (Renewal) 3 mills, 5 years for roads, streets and bridges
Morgan Township, Property Tax (Renewal) 1.75 mills for 3 yrs for providing Ambulance service, Emergency Medical service or both
Monroe Township, Property Tax (Renewal) 3 mills for 5 years for providing fire services and maintaining fire equipment
Northridge School District Income Tax Additional 0.75% for 30 years and Bond Issue $14.6 million, 2.90 mills, Building new elementary school, upgrading the middle school
Loudonville School District Property Tax (Additional) 0.80 mill for 5 yrs for current expenses
Local Option (D-6 Permit) Martinsburg Marathon for sale of wine and mixed beverages on Sunday between the hours of ten a.m. and midnight
Local Option (D-6 Permit) Legends Bar and Grill for the sale of wine and mixed beverages on Sunday
