These Mount Vernon High School cheerleaders won the 2017 Dan Emmett Festival competition.

MOUNT VERNON – For the third year in a row the Mount Vernon High School cheerleaders won first place for varsity squads at the Dan Emmett Festival downtown Thursday evening. The cheer competition has been a big part of the festival for 12 years.

Squads were judged on their motion technique, voice projection, transitions, formation/spacing, flow/pace, jumps, dance, synchronization/timing, effective/appropriate words and skills, use of signs, pom-poms and megaphones, showmanship/presentation, choreography, and overall impression.
