MOUNT VERNON — Randy Canterbury, recycling coordinator for Knox County, told the county commissioners on Monday that the special recycling collection held on Saturday was a success with 304 people participating.
Items collected include 55 electronics, 257 TVs, five agricultural tires, 122 truck tires and 1,383 regular tires. The river cleanup on Sept. 17 yielded six yards of trash and 45 tires; 94 volunteers participated. Styrofoam recycling at Opportunity Knox will begin Nov. 1.
Canterbury said he has met with four local businesses regarding recycling. Next year, he plans to meet with vendors at the Knox County Fair prior to the start of the fair and set up a recycling program. Following are other activities with which Canterbury has been involved:
*Assisted Morrow County with a government waste audit
*Completed a waste audit for Mount Vernon Nazarene University and the Knox County Service Center
*Assumed the position of debris coordinator for the county under Knox County Emergency Management
