MOUNT VERNON – High school bands were the main attraction at the MVHS football field Saturday night for the 2nd annual Yellow Jacket Showcase of Bands. It was an opportunity for music lovers, friends and family to come together to enjoy a variety of marching band repertoire. The large crowd thrilled to the marching, music, dancing and percussion performances.
After the MVHS band presented their traditional pregame performance (known as the ramp to band alumni) the Trojan Pride Band from Centerburg High School took the field. Their show, Disney’s “Fantasmic” included Mickey and the Sorcerer, Princess Medley and Finale. Band members were joined by an enthusiastic flag corps. Centerburg’s band is led by Frank Dettmar, Director and Anne Teschler, Assistant Director with Stasi Culberson leading the colorguard.
The Fredericktown High School Marching Band and flag corps presented two half-time shows. The first featured music by Justin Timberlake – I want you Back-NYSNC, Mirrors, Can’t Stop the Feeling. The second featured music by 21 Pilots – Heathens, Ride, Tear in my Hearts. FHS band director is Michael Reeves with Jessica Overholt serves as Assistant Director.
The MVHS Yellow Jacket Marching Band presented a classic rock show featuring the the music of 1970’s band, Chicago – Free, Does Anybody Know What Time it is?, Make Me Smile and 25 or 6 to 4. Andrew Sundman and Megan Aubihl direct the MVHS band while LeRon Carlton is the Percussion instrutor.

The evening was presented by the Mount Vernon Music boosters and the Mount Vernon City Schools Music Department.
