FREDERICKTOWN – The Fredericktown Police Department added a second police patrolling bicycle to the fleet with grant funding from Walmart, a discount from Y- Not Cycling and donation from Impact Media Signs.

Chief Roger Brown said the police department was awarded a $750 grant from Walmart to assist in the purchase of a new police patrolling bicycle that retails for around $1200.

Fredericktown Patrolman Ronny Flynn contacted Eric Peterson, owner of Y-Not Cycling of Mt. Vernon and Lexington and inquired about purchasing a police bike. Peterson graciously discounted the retail cost of a Trek Patrol Mountain Bike to $800.

Just like a patrol cruiser, the bike is equipped with red & blue flashing lights, a siren, headlight and tail light. Brown said Fredericktown Police Department decals were donated and installed on the bike by Rob Laher, owner of Impact Media Signs, Fredericktown.

Chief Brown said, “Police bicycle patrols enhance community relations by promoting positive interactions with the public. Not only is this an effective use of manpower during parades, festivals and on the Owl Creek Trail where police can respond quickly and safely through crowds, it can also put police officers at a tactical advantage when stealth is required.”
