CENTERBURG — The Heart of Ohio USA Days festival celebrated one of its most cherished traditions Friday evening with the crowning of Amelia McIntire as Little Miss Liberty and Cameron Clarke as Little Uncle Sammy.

The contestants might be young, but they have big ambitions for later in life — and they’re awesome at fundraising.

This year, the participants raised $2,000 by collecting pennies for votes, which will help fund the 2027 USA Days Festival.

According to event organizer Candy McCracken, over the competition’s 25 years, contestants raised $50,000.

The festival kicks off on Saturday at 10 a.m. with a parade. In keeping with America 250 and the nation’s birthday, area veterans will serve as the grand marshals.

Other events on tap include karaoke, a Princess Party, and an old-time wrestling comedy show. In-between, visitors can enjoy food vendors and rides.

Nicks & Tricks is back for an encore performance at 6 p.m, featuring hits by Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. Cross Thread headlines the evening’s entertainment with its energetic rock.

The event culminates with fireworks at 10 p.m., sponsored by the Peter Hayden Chapman AMVETS Post 30 and the Centerburg Charles Andrew Post 460 of the American Legion.
