MOUNT VERNON — Mayor Richard Mavis has issued a proclamation in recognition of Constitution Week 2016. The proclamation reads:
“Whereas, Sept. 17, 2016, marks the 229th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and
“Whereas, it is fitting and proper to officially recognize this magnificent document and the anniversary of its creation; and
“Whereas, it is fitting and proper to officially recognize the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate the occasion; and
“Whereas, public law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America designating Sept. 17 through Sept. 23 as Constitution Week.
“Now, therefore, I, Richard K. Mavis, Mayor of the City of Mount Vernon, Ohio, do hereby proclaim Sept. 17 through Sept. 23, 2016, to be Constitution Week in the city of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and ask all of our citizens to reaffirm the ideals posed by the framers of the Constitution in 1787.
“I hereunto set my hand on behalf of the City of Mount Vernon, Ohio, on the 17th day of September in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen in remembrance and respect of the 240th year of independence of the United States of America.”
