MOUNT VERNON –  The Knox County Health Department will kick-off its schedule of flu shot clinics with walk-in clinics on Friday and Saturday at the health department, 11660 Upper Gilchrist Rd. Flu shots will be available for adults and children, 6 mos. of age and older.

 

This Friday (9/16), flu shots will be available from 9- 11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. On Saturday (9/17), flu shots will be available from 8 – 11 a.m. No appointment is necessary. Shots will be administered in the health department conference room.

 

If someone is unable to walk into the building to get a shot, a nurse will be available to go outside to adminster the shot while the person is in their vehicle. There are no restrictions for age or health conditions. Health department officials said they have plenty of vaccine.

 

Medicaid, Medicare and most forms of insurance will be accepted for payment of the flu shot at all health department clinics . Otherwise, the cost for the flu shot is $30 and can be paid in cash or by check. Clinic attendees need to bring their ID and medical/insurance card.  

The health department will offer flu shots this year at 17 community clinics including clinics in Centerburg, Danville, Apple Valley, Fredericktown, Gambier, Mount Vernon  and several clinics at the health department. Next week’s schedule includes a clinic at the health department on Sept. 20 with shots available from 9-11 a.m. and 2-6 p.m. and at Senior Resource Day at First Church of the Nazarene on Sept. 21.  

There will be no drive-thru clinic this year.  

In addition to the community clinics, the health department will also provide flu shots to anyone in Knox County who is homebound and unable to attend a community clinic. To schedule a flu shot for a homebound person, call Lorraine Bratton RN, at 740-392-2200, Ext. 2251.
