HOWARD – A Mount Vernon man was arrested late Saturday night after driving a pickup truck into Apple Valley Lake. According to a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report, Carl Kuhel, 56, was driving a grey Dodge pickup truck in the 4000 block of Apple Valley Drive.

An Apple Valley resident advised the sheriff’s office that a truck had been driven into the lake. Kuhel and an underage passenger got out of the vehicle prior to the deputy’s arrival. Kuhel was arrested, taken for evaluation at Knox Community Hospital, and then taken without incident to the Knox County Jail. There was no mention of any injuries to the juvenile.

Kuhel, whose driver’s license is under suspension, has been charged with driving under the influence and with child endangering for having a child under 18 years of age in the vehicle. He’s also facing a probation violation charge.

As of Monday afternoon bond was set at $5,000 (no 10% provision) on the OVI charge, $1,000 (no 10% provision) on child endangering charge and no bail for the probation violation.
