MANSFIELD – On August 2, 2016 the Richland County Sheriff’s Office requested the public’s assistance, through the news media, in locating a suspect vehicle and possible identity of two suspects responsible for Criminal Damaging and Breaking and Entering at Crestview School, as well as Criminal Damaging at three (3) area residences. The total amount reported in damage totaled almost $10,000.
Six hours after the request the Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip from a citizen that led to the identification of the suspect vehicle and suspects. One of the suspects was interviewed this (Friday) morning and admitted to all the offenses including two (2) additional cases not originally released. The two additional cases involved Criminal Damaging in the same area at residences. Total damage of $70.00. The second suspect is a juvenile and deputies have been in contact with his legal representation.
The evidence and case investigation will be submitted to the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office for charges.
Sheriff Steve Sheldon stated, “I would like to thank the media and the public for their help in resolving these crimes. It goes to show how well our community and the Sheriff’s Office works well together to keep us all safe.”
