MOUNT  VERNON  –  MVPD officers will now be equipped with body cameras thanks to a private donation. Chief Roger Monroe tells KnoxPages.com that use of the cameras began on Thursday. All officers on patrol and the school resource officer will have them at all times. Detectives will wear then as needed.

Chief Monroe said, “The biggest benefit is documentation of the event. This should also decrease complaints against officers and should there be a complaint the citizens will be able to see a replay of actual events. These will not be on 24/7 the officers have some discretion as when not to have the cameras on. They just have to document why it was not on. This is just another tool to help serve and protect both our officers and citizens.”
