MOUNT VERNON – Spring has arrived, some forsythia are blooming, and soon swimmers will head to Hiawatha Water Park/Pool. Memberships are now being sold by the city auditor’s office. This week the city sent out 15,000 oversized postcards in the mail to residents promoting pool memberships. A special discount membership rate is available if payment is received by April 30th.

The household membership (limit 4 people) is $180 for a resident and $200 for non-resident through April 30. Rates are higher if paid after April 30th. Daily rate for an individual ages 6-59 is $7 from noon to 5 p.m., after 5 p.m. it’s $5. Children ages 1-5 are $4 noon to 5 p.m. and $3 after 5 p.m. Seniors, ages 60 and over, will get in for $6 from noon to 5 p.m. and $4 after 5 p.m. For more pool information visit the city’s website, http://mountvernonohio.org.

The pool at 100 Sychar Road will be open from June-August from noon to 7:45 p.m.  With a season pass swimming lessons are available on a first come, first served basis.

The Hiawather Water Park/Pool’s unique design includes toddler activity with a frog slide and lemon drop sprayers, two pool areas boasting an olympic size with eight swimming lanes, one-meter dividng board, a 30-foot body slide, water basketball in both pools, a play area with many tunnels, platforms, and a raindrop fountain. A basketball court “inside the complex” is very popular. There is plenty of green space, shade umbrellas, and access to patron lockers. Celebration and company sponsored activities can be planned. Large groups of 40 or more will be eligible for a reduced walk-in rate.

Children may enter without supervision, if they will be 12 years of age or have completed 6th grade prior to the end of the current water park season. An annual membership application must accompany payment (check or cash only.) To access the application click here.
