MOUNT VERNON – Police Chief Roger Monroe is asking citizens to remove vehicles parked in right of ways and near curbs in violation of city ordinances. Monroe says that while the Street Department has been working hard to clear snow and make the streets safe for travel he is asking residents to shovel out their vehicles and move them in accordance with the law. Citations will be be issued for these violations.

A city ordinance (351.14) says no person shall park any vehicle on any street or upon the citiy’s right-of-way for more than 24 continuous hours. Whoever violates this section and receives a parking ticket shall pay a fine of $20. If a parking ticket issued under this section is not paid within five days of the issue date, the fine is raised to $40.

Regarding snow emegency parking, city ordinance (351.16) says no owner or operator of any vehicle shall park such vehicle on any part of the streets within 24 hours after a snow fall of three inches or more.

Streets designated as snow removal streets (on both sides) in the city are as follows:

  • Ohio Avenue from Sandusky Street to East Street
  • Gambier Street Fountain Street to Quarry Street
  • Vine Street from Fountain Street to Center Street
  • High Street from Fountain Street to Center Street
  • Chestnut Street from Riverside Drive to Park Street
  • Sandusky Street from Pleasant Street to Belmont Avenue
  • Mulberry Street from Burgess Street to Phillips Drive
  • Main Street from Howard Street to Curtis Street
  • Gay Streeet from Howard Street to Wooster Road
  • Both the inner perimeter and out perimeter of the Public Square

If you violate this ordinance, the fine is $20. If it is not paid within five days of the issue date, the fine is doubled to $40.
