MOUNT VERNON – February is American Heart Month, and Knox Community Hospital invited women of the community to attend the annual Go Red for Women event on Thursday.
In coordination with the Center for Rehabilitation and Wellness at KCH, this Lunch & Learn focused on some of the modifiable risk factors for heart disease—exercise and stress reduction.

A highlight of the event was an interactive Tai Chi demonstration given by Marshall Winkle. Tai Chi can be used to reduce stress. Winkle describes Tai Chi as a “soft” martial art which uses balance and range of motion. Winkle teaches a Tai Chi for health class at the Center. For those concerned about not following the movements exactly, Winkle says, “Tai Chi is a journey and we travel at our own pace.”
Attendees were given chair massages, an exercise band workout demonstration, and tours of the fitness and warm water pool, and handouts with information on how to keep your heart healthy.
