MOUNT VERNON – John Booth of Teryl Drive will be a candidate for Mount Vernon City Council at-large this fall. Booth has a wealth of council experience gained during 22 years as the representative from the Second Ward, and 16 years as Council President.
“This year’s open at-large seat is the opportunity to return to service on the legislative body that has been a major focus of my adult life,” Booth said. “I believe my familiarity with the operations of the city and with the intricacies of it’s $40 million budget will enable me to hit the ground running, if elected.”
Booth, who enjoyed long tenures with both Pittsburgh Plte Glass and TRW before retiring, said continuing to help build Mount Vernon’s business and industrial base is high of his list of council objectives. He also cited his desire to continue improving city facilities and providing support as needed for local support as needed for local schools. colleges and universities.
“All of these are critical to creating an even better community than we already enjoy,” Booth said. “I am eager to resume what I believe has been effective City Council service.”
Booth and his wife Sharon children and eight grandchildren and are active members of the First Church of the Nazarene. Booth also is a long-time member of the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club, and has served on teh boards of the Mount Vernon Salvation Army and Mid-Ohio Transit Authority, and was a volunteer coach for numerous youth atletic teams through the years.
