JACKSONTOWN – The Ohio Department of Transortation says that due to some “travel issues,” the huge generator moving across eastern Ohio will not make it out of Coshocton Co. today (Thursday). It will be staged along U.S. 36 at CR 435 & Twp. Rd. 74 until further notice.
The rig hauling the huge generator shut down Route 36 Wednesday night near Millwood for several hours.
Siemens issued a statement to employees about the load that left the Mount Vernon facility yesterday:
The first of three MOHO-NORD Turbo generators departed from the Siemens facility in Mount Vernon, Ohio en route to Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea. The unit will travel East on route 36 through Newcomerstown, South on I-77, and East on I-70 to Wheeling. The unit will be loaded onto a barge in Bellaire, OH sail to the port of Houston where it will be trans-loaded onto a commercial vessel for the Journey to South Korea.
The trailer carrying the unit to Bellaire is +350 feet long, ~15 feet high & wide.
The permitted load is 489,000 lbs, and is the heaviest permitted load on record that has traveled in this region.
The unit will be installed on a Floating Production Unit (FPU) and generate ~28 megawatts of power to support the production of crude oil in an oil field off-shore coast of the Congo for the end user Total E&P, Congo.
