MOUNT VERNON – A new Knox County Grand Jury was seated in Common Pleas Court Monday, and the group of nine jurors issued five indictments. According to Prosecuting Attorney Chip McConville, the charges included felonious assault, domestic violence and drugs.
Justyn C. Harris, 26, of Mount Vernon, was indicted for felonious assault and domestic violence
stemming from an incident on December 3. The indictment alleges that Harris caused serious
physical harm to the mother of his child. Harris faces a felony domestic violence charge because of a prior conviction in Mount Vernon Municipal Court. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. The case was investigated by Mount Vernon Police Patrolman Brian Weiser.
John T. Shearn, 49, of Walhonding, was indicted on two counts of domestic violence, both
fourth-degree felonies. Shearn allegedly caused or attempted to cause harm to his wife and a
child on December 18. The case was investigated by Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon
Minot.
Mark A. Banbury, 35, of Mount Vernon, was indicted for possession of cocaine and possession
of drugs, both fifth-degree felonies, and possession of drug abuse instruments, a first-degree
misdemeanor. Banbury allegedly possessed these items when Mount Vernon Police executed a
warrant at his residence on Prospect Street on December 10. Banbury was taken into custody at that time on outstanding arrest warrants in other cases. He subsequently posted a $50,000 cash bond. This case was investigated by Detective Tim Arnold of the Mount Vernon Police
Department.
Shawn L. Cunningham, 38, of Columbus, was indicted for grand theft of a motor vehicle, a
felony of the fourth degree, following a November 13 incident where he allegedly stole a 2000
Jeep Laredo from his mother. The vehicle was discovered abandoned in Columbus on December 2. A warrant has been issued for Cunningham’s arrest. The case was investigated by KCSO Deputy Jason Wilson.
Brian C. Creech, 24, of Mount Vernon, was indicted for receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly negotiating two bad checks at First Knox National Bank with a total value in excess of $1,000. The case was investigated by MVPD Patrolman Brian Weiser.
Arraignments in these cases are scheduled for Friday, January 16, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in the Knox County Common Pleas Court.
