MOUNT VERNON – The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Mount Vernon Police Department and Knox County Sheriff’s Office conducted an OVI checkpoint from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday August 23, on State Route 36, Coshocton Avenue in Mount Vernon.
The OVI checkpoint, was funded by federal grant funds and intended to deter and intercept impaired drivers.
There were 487 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, the drivers of 409 of them were stopped and contacted by officers from the Mount Vernon Police Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio Highway Patrol. Officers dedicated to impaired driver detection and apprehension in the immediate area conducted 47 stops for traffic violations. There were no impaired drivers detected by the officers.
If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.
