MOUNT VERNON – Joy L. Swope, 49, Mount Vernon, was convicted of complicity to commit burglary and sentenced to 18 months in prison.  Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher said on March 19, Swope aided and abetted a co-defendant in the burglary of a Cottage Street residence.  The burglary was an attempt to recover a “sound system” Swope had traded for what she thought was heroin, but what was actually brown sugar.  Detective Corporal Beth Marti, Mount Vernon Police Department, investigated the case.

James D. Yors, 45, Mount Vernon, was convicted of theft for stealing a computer from a Mount Vernon store, on February 24.  Yors was sentenced to 180 days in jail and then a three year term of community control supervision.  An eleven month prison sentence will remain suspended while Yors is being supervised by the probation department.  Patrolmen David McElroy and Tim Durbin, MVPD, investigated the case.
