MOUNT VERNON – Interim MVPD chief George Hartz tells KnoxPages.com that earlier tonight investigators from the State Fire Marshall’s office and the Mount Vernon Police Department arrested Jason Sowers, 32, of Mount Vernon.
Sowers was observed leaving the basement of the apartment building at 5 East Street shortly before the fire was reported early this morning. He is being held at the Knox County Jail on charges of Criminal Trespassing and Probation Violation.

The fire is being treated as an arson and the State Fire Marshall’s office and Mount Vernon Police Department are continuing to investigate. At this time there is no indication that this fire and the fire that destroyed Dan Emmett’s house are related.
