MOUNT VERNON —  Mount Vernon High School inducted 42 students into the the Laura B. Koons Chapter of the National Honor Society on November 20th. Juniors and Seniors go through a vigorous application process to become members of the NHS. They must obtain three teacher recommendations, a community member recommendation and list activities in school and the community. Candidates are also required to write an essay on how they meet the four pillars of NHS: character, service, leadership and scholarship. A faculty council reviews the materials and votes to issue membership invitations.

Advisor Guinn Bandy tells KnoxPages.com NHS members are required to perform service projects including an adopt-an-angel program in cooperation with the Salvation Army, and a blood drive in the spring.
