MOUNT VERNON — Judge Otho Eyster handed down sentences today in five felony cases. According to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher, Jamie S. Cremeans, 42, Mount Vernon, was convicted of rape, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, and two counts of corrupting another with drugs. Cremeans was sentenced to a mandatory 17 year prison term. He was also classified as a Tier III Sex Offender with a lifetime duty to verify his address with authorities every 90 days.

Thatcher said the charges involved four 12 and 13 year old Mount Vernon girls. Cremeans engaged in sexual conduct with two girls, and he gave the other two girls marihuana and methamphetamine. Detective Tom Bumpus, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, investigated the case.

Joe Jerome Williams, 35, Dayton, was convicted of trafficking in heroin for selling three grams of heroin to a confidential informant, on January 18. Williams was sentenced to a 17 month prison term. Detective Craig Feeney investigated the case.

Duane E. Thomas, 55, Mount Vernon, was convicted of intimidation and inducing panic charges and sentenced to 90 days in jail. Thomas was also sentenced to a three year term of community control supervision during which he will be required to undergo an alcohol and drug use assessment and a mental health evaluation. Thomas will serve a 30 month prison term if he violates his supervision. Thatcher said on August 7, inside a Newark Road residence, Thomas pointed a .45 caliber handgun at a Mount Vernon Municipal Court bailiff who was there to evict him. Thomas refused to leave the residence for the next six hours causing a stand-off with several law enforcement agencies that was resolved peacefully. The Knox and Licking County Sheriff’s Offices, Mount Vernon Police and Fire Departments and State Highway Patrol were all involved in the incident.

Randy A. Jordan, 55, Mansfield, was convicted of aggravated possession of drugs and sentenced to a three year term of community control supervision. While Jordan is being supervised, he must undergo an alcohol and drug use assessment and monitoring. Jordan’s driver’s license was also suspended for six months. Jordan will serve an 11 month prison term if he violates his supervision. Thatcher said last September, Jordan was stopped by Trooper Joshua Stryker for speeding and suspected drunk driving on State Route 13. During the traffic stop, Jordan was found in possession of seven Methadone tablets.

Katelynn M. Cooper, 23, Mount Vernon, was convicted of breaking and entering and complicity to commit unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Cooper was sentenced to a three year term of community control supervision during which she will be required to complete a drug treatment program. Cooper will serve an 11 month prison term, if she violates her supervision. Thatcher said on May 7, Cooper and her co-defendant broke into a condemned residence on Quarry Street, and then her co-defendant set fire to the house with a box of papers. Cooper left the area with the co-defendant in an unlocked vehicle they found, on Howard Street. Detective James DeChant, MVPD, Investigator Terry Davis, Mount Vernon Fire Department, and Investigator Jason Whaley, State Fire Marshall’s Office, investigated the case.
