MOUNT VERNON-The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Knox County sponsored it’s 1st 5K night run “Glow 4 Goal” in coordination with the seasons’ last 1st Friday event on the Mount Vernon Public Square. While a storm threatened the start of the race around 6:00pm, miraculously, the line of precipitation split and went around Mount Vernon and the race was on. One hundred fifty-one entrants were off at 7:00pm; starting from Howard Street at South Main Street. The race route went east on Howard, south on Liberty into Philips Park part way down the Kokosing Trail and back north on Rogers Street, West on High Street ending at the Square.
Winners were:
First Male: Eric Diehl
First Female: Jennifer Sprang
First 12 and under: Megan Pentz
The 2013/2014 Season Kick Off event added $3,600 to the Relay For Life of Knox County fundraising event for the coming event to take place in June of 2014.
When asked how it went for a 1st time event, Andrea Perlman, American Cancer Society representative for income development, said, “Thank you to everyone who came out to support the event, helped with set up/tear down, directed runners/walkers along the route, ran registration, and helped throughout all the planning of the event. We would not have been as successful without them!” Perlman went on to say, “Carrie Crouch (Heritage Centre Association downtown manager ) already told me they were interested in having us join them at a first Friday in 2014!”
