MOUNT VERNON – Two rising Democratic stars kicking off statewide races will join Knox County Democrats to headline the Jefferson Jackson Dinner on Thursday, October 17, 2013.
The annual dinner of the Knox County Democratic Party will feature Ohio Senator Nina Turner, candidate for secretary of state, and Ohio Representative Connie Pillich, candidate for treasurer of state.
Well known for her passionate advocacy of voting rights and women’s rightsas well as her appearances on MSNBCSen. Turner is the minority whip in the Ohio Senate, representing Cleveland in the 25th district. Sen. Turner began serving in the senate in 2008 following her service on Cleveland city council. In the summer, Sen. Turner announced plans to challenge incumbent Jon Husted to become Ohio’s next secretary of state, calling out Husted and his fellow Republicans for their repeated attempts to deny equal voting rights to all Ohioans.
A member of the Ohio House of Representatives since 2009, Rep. Pillich defeated a Tea Party activist in 2010 and won again in 2012 despite being placed in a gerrymandered district designed to favor Republicans. A U.S. Air Force veteran, Rep. Pillich is challenging incumbent Josh Mandel to become Ohio’s next treasurer.
Other local Democratic candidates will also be in attendance at the dinner.
Admission for the JeffersonJackson Dinner is $30. The dinner will be held at the Alcove Restaurant, 116 South Main Street in Mount Vernon. Reservations are required.
