MOUNT VERNON — Julie Miller, county health commissioner, updated City Council on departmental activities and presented statistics from January through June. Miller said that several flu clinics were rescheduled because the flu vaccine was not delivered; she anticipates receiving a shipment of the vaccine on Oct. 2.
She said the Community Health Improvement Plan is being implemented with attention being paid to the areas of childhood obesity, mental health and addiction intervention and treatment.

One focus is on breaking the stigma of mental health. Miller said a program to combat childhood obesity, Crunch out Obesity, has been successful.
One of the most exciting things that Miller said is happening is creating the vision that every resident in Knox County is safe, healthy and valued. “That’s what public health is all about,” she said.
