MOUNT VERNON – The Heritage Centre Association wants to remind Knox County residents and visitors that shopping in downtown Mount Vernon is always a great way to find those special, one-of-a-kind Christmas gifts while supporting the local economy.
“With only a few days left before Christmas, now is the perfect time to shop downtown and support our local small business owners,” said HCA downtown manager Carrie Haver. “You can find tools; music; large and small appliances; books and toys; ornaments; antiques and collectibles; handmade cards, local foods, chocolates, and baked goods; locally crafted art; and so much more. While you’re here, grab a cup of coffee or lunch in one of our many downtown eating establishments. Shopping downtown is an experience, not just a transaction.”
In addition to shopping and dining, families can visit with Santa on the Public Square on Christmas Eve, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
HCA encourages shoppers to consider the impact of their Christmas shopping dollars. According to eLocal.com, local businesses reinvest 65 percent of their revenue back into the community. The figure for national chains is less than 30 percent.
