MOUNT VERNON-Mount Vernon City School Superintendent Bill Seder says it will take some time to fully analyze the results of the state report card issued this week. He also says it will also take time to understand exactly how they were calculated.
In the report card, MVCSD performed well, achieving an A in the letter grade of standards met. However, the district received an F in letter grade of overall value – added. In a statement released late Friday afternoon Seder said, “Excellence must be the cornerstone of everything we say and do. With that in mind I am a proponent of accountability and believe that it is important that we set high expectations for our students, teachers, and administrators. The “New Report Card” is a step in that direction and while we don’t understand every nuance or calculation we will use it as motivation to identify and address challenges while also celebrating our successes.”
“We have a lot to be proud of: The district received an “A” on the 24 tested indicators. The districts performance index has grown in each of the past five years. Four of the six elementary buildings received an “A” as their value added grade. We have a lot of work to do as well! We’re not going to sugarcoat our weaknesses we’re going to address them head on and challenge our staff and students towards excellence.”
