KNOX COUNTY – The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Knox County just before 10 a.m. Wednesday.

“Moderate to heavy rainfall will produce considerable snowmelt and (lead) to flooding across north central and northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania today and tonight,” the NWS said in a statement.

The watch is expected to last through Wednesday night.

The flood watch was issued for the following Ohio counties: Ashland, Ashtabula Inland, Ashtabula Lakeshore, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Hancock, Holmes, Huron, Knox, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Marion, Medina, Morrow, Portage, Richland, Seneca, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Wayne, and Wyandot. In northwest Pennsylvania: Crawford, Northern Erie, and Southern Erie.

“The recent weekend snowstorm contained about 0.5 to 1.0 inches of liquid water. About 0.4 to 0.75 inch of snowmelt is expected today,” the NWS said. “In addition…rainfall today will range from 0.5 inch near Toledo to 1.25 inch in northwest PA. The combination of rainfall and snowmelt will produce widespread minor flooding from Findlay to Lorain and points east into PA.”

The NWS recommends residents continue to monitor the forecast for possible flood warnings.

“Those in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should a flood warning be issued or if flooding develops,” the NWS said.
