MOUNT VERNON – At around 8 AM on the morning of July 3, 1863, Jenny Wade was preparing bread to support the Union soldiers fighting the rebels in Gettysburg, when a minie ball struck the door of her home and killing her. Jennie was the only civilian killed during the 3 day battle that is considered one of the pivotal battles during the Civil War.

This Thursday, February 26th ar ThePlace@theWoodward [120 S. Main Street in downtown Mount Vernon] Rachel Ball will portray Jennie Wade and we will hear about life in the small town and the unusual story of Jennie, her fiancé Jack Skelly [Union soldier] and their friend Wesley Culp [Rebel solder].

Opening the program will be Steve Ball, a Civil War music expert. The doors open to this first floor facility at 6 PM, Steve will play music of the Civil War at 7 PM. Rachel will present her story at 7:45, followed by a Question/Answer period with Jennie/Rachel.
