MOUNT VERNON – New Directions, the Domestic Abuse Shelter and Rape Crisis Center of Knox County, has partnered with Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR) and Mount Vernon Nazarene University Athletics for training sessions on Jan. 25.

The training sessions will be concentrated on “Coaching Boys Into Men,” and will be presented by PAAR in the Watson Classroom of Ariel Arena. There will be two of the same sessions, with the first from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and the second from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dinner will be provided between the two sessions.

The free training is designed to assist Knox County coaches, teachers, youth leaders, and community members in being effective role models and mentors for young men from the ages of 12 to 18.

Space is limited to 20 participants per session and if you would like to attend, please reserve your space by Monday, January 22, 2018. RSVP by contacting Lori Jones-Perkins, MVNU alum and New Directions’ DELTA FOCUS Coordinator at 740-397-4357 or by e-mail at lori@newdirectionsshelter.org

“This program provides an avenue for men and women to be trained with tools promoting healthy relationship skills and to effectively begin the conversation in our community with young men,” stated Jones-Perkins.

“This is a prevention program intended to help young men to learn the importance of respecting themselves and others, including women. We invite community members interested in becoming facilitators/co-facilitators to attend one of our scheduled sessions. This has been an amazing opportunity to partner in our community with MVNU and host CBiM facilitator training through the generous funding of the United Way of Knox County.”
