COLUMBUS — Senator Andrew Brenner (R-Delaware) recognized Ash Brokaw, a junior at Mount Vernon High School, as the champion 2026 OHSAA Girl’s Wrestling Tournament champion during a recent ceremony at the Ohio Statehouse.

“I am overwhelmed with pride in the accomplishments that Ash Brokaw has made not only for her but for the entire girl’s wrestling program at Mount Vernon High School,” said Sen. Brenner. “I have no doubt she will go on to do incredible things.”

The Mount Vernon junior won her second consecutive state championship with a 13-4 win in the finals of the 110-pound weight class earlier this year.

Senator Brenner also honored the Ridgewood High School AI for Youth Team for being named the Ohio State Champions of the prestigious White House Presidential AI Challenge.

The Presidential AI Challenge is a national competition that focuses on student innovation and excellence in artificial intelligence.

This year, students had several months to create a project showcasing the study, development, or use of AI to address community challenges. The Ridgewood High School team created Reading Reimagined, a program designed to address the 3rd and 4th grade literacy gap.

“These students have a very bright future due to their own dedication, but also through the dedication of their advisor, Lester McCurdy,” Brenner said.

“Combined with strong mentorship, the team’s diligence and creativity resulted in an innovative AI platform designed to help students improve literacy by personalizing reading experiences, supporting skill development, and engaging learners in new and effective ways.”

Brenner and the Ohio Senate congratulate both Ash Brokaw and the Ridgewood High School AI for Youth Team on their impressive accomplishments.
