MOUNT VERNON – Calling knowledge seekers of all ages.

Following the announcement by the City of Mount Vernon and the Shade Tree & Beautification Commission regarding the planking demonstration taking place on Public Square, several downtown merchants wanted to offer educational opportunities for attendees to extend their day in the central business district of Mount Vernon.

As announced, SOS Tree Service and Ghost Logging will harvest the trees on March 13, starting at 8 a.m. (rain date, March 20). During the demonstration, the following merchants will be sharing demonstrations and offering discounts:

The Makery on Main Street (1 North Main Street) will have a hand-cranked knitting machine demonstration taking place in their shop, while The Scent Life Candle Bar (135 South Main Street) encourages you to join their team to learn how to create a custom scented product in just three easy steps.

Live Naturally, located at 10 East Vine Street, will have free informational sheets on trees that have healing properties as well as free Palo Santo smudge sticks to the first 15 people who stop in. Paragraphs Bookstore on the corner of Ohio Avenue and South Main Street will have a display of tree books with a 15 percent discount special only on that Saturday, and just across the street at Coleman’s Family Gallery, leaf rubbing demonstrations will be performed by local artist, Vicki Coleman.

Crickets on South Main Street will host a “Joy Jewelry” demonstration by Karen Hudson on the use of hair products from 10 a.m. to noon. Back on the square, Almost Famous Sweets and Sodas will be offering flower seed packets for kids to take and plant.

With all of these opportunities occurring downtown at once, it is a wonderful day to spend a Saturday in Mount Vernon. Visit us at mainstreetmountvernon.com to join the downtown movement.
