MOUNT VERNON — The Daughters of the American Revolution Community Service award represents State Level recognition for a person who continues to go above average level of service to others.
Audrey Spearman was nominated by Lucy Knox Chapter member Jana Stewart.
In her nomination Jana stated that Audrey’s contributions to the people of Knox County, Ohio and beyond are numerous.
A partial list includes a fund started by Audrey and her late husband, Dean, called the Rollin’ Buckeyes, within the Knox County Foundation in 2001 to provide scholarships to county residents who attend The Ohio State University.
The fund continues to give multiple awards each year. Audrey is active in events for the alumni club, including the Buckeye Spirit Event each October.
Audrey is on the Board of Food for the Hungry and she provides lunch for all of the volunteers on the community-wide donation day in December.
Audrey is involved with the Community Concert Association.
Audrey has held several offices in the local Apple Valley Garden Club and has been a regional director of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs. For more than 15 years she has been co-chair of the flower show that is held during the Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival.
This three day event welcomes arrangers and gardeners from all of central Ohio to share their horticulture and flower arranging skills. Each month Audrey visits the Living Center.
There she does a craft activity, often with a flower theme, for all residents who are interested.
The award, consisting of a Certificate and Pin was presented to Audrey by Jana Stewart, member of the Lucy Knox Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution at their meeting on March 14.
