MOUNT VERNON – The Knox County Grand Jury returned indictments against five individuals on Monday, according to Prosecutor John Thatcher.

On June 17, Wayne E. Campbell, 37, Mansfield, allegedly stole power tools from two stores in Mount Vernon, and then fled from the Mount Vernon Police in a stolen car.  Thatcher said the high speed chase ended when Campbell’s car broke down near Upper Fredericktown and Hyatt Roads.  Campbell fled on foot, and then allegedly assaulted two police officers who tried to arrest him.  Campbell allegedly stole another car, but bystanders were able to prevent him from driving away until officers from the MVPD, Fredericktown Police Department and Knox County Sheriff’s Office took him into custody.  One of the bystanders was slightly injured during the incident, according to Thatcher.  Campbell is accused of possessing a stolen motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding, two counts of assault on peace officers, theft of the second motor vehicle, assault and two counts of receiving stolen property.  Corporal Kyle Theibert and Detective Beth Marti, MPVD, presented the case to the Grand Jury.

Lee S. Oliver, 41, Utica, was indicted on two counts of theft from a disabled adult.  Thatcher said between September 27, 2012 and February 13, 2014, Oliver allegedly misappropriated approximately $23,000.00 from a developmentally disabled adult.  Between November 14, 2012 and January 17, 2014, he allegedly stole almost $6,000.00 from another developmentally disabled adult.  Thatcher said Oliver was the payee for the victims’ social security benefits.  The case was investigated by Detective David Light, KCSO, with the assistance of a forensic auditor from the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

Floyd O. Daniels, Jr., 36, Columbus, Lacie J. Peters, 36, Gambier, and Randy A. Ramsey, 43, Mount Vernon, face charges of possessing stolen checks and forgery.  Thatcher said on several occasions in March, April and May, Daniels, Peters and Ramsey allegedly forged and cashed stolen checks totaling over $2,600.00.  Deputy Scott Baker, KCSO, investigated the case.
