Mansfield City School student, Amber Meeting with her trophy for State nomination.

MANSFIELD – On May 8, the State Support Team Region 7 honored 40 students that were nominated by their schools for the outstanding achievement award, recognizing their successes and ability to overcome challenges.

Amber Meeting, a student from the Mansfield City Schools, was selected as the nominee for the R. A. Horn Outstanding Achievement Award.

The Lexington Local Schools educator team of Stephanie Coffman, Ashley Smith, Connie Pritchard, Chris Kmetz and Jill Williams were nominated for the Franklin B. Walter Outstanding Educator Award. On June 12, they will be honored by the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities (OCECD) in Columbus.

These recipients will represent Region 7 and will attend a ceremony and luncheon where the state finalists from the 16 State Support Team regions will be honored by the OCECD.

Student nominees were selected based on the student’s outstanding characteristics and performance in academic subjects, the arts, extracurricular activities, community involvement, community service, independent living skills, transition skills, employment, social skills and perseverance.

Educators and educator teams were nominated based on going “above and beyond” to increase educational outcomes for students and demonstrate collaboration with parents, service providers and others to reach these goals.

The State Support Team thanked the following organizations and individuals: Families of the nominees, the nominators of the award recipients, the Mid-Ohio Conference Center, Mid-Ohio Trophy, the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities and Pioneer Career and Technology Center.
