Kevin Remillard’s jury trial has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on June 5. County Prosecutor Chip McConnville expects the trial to last a week. Remillard was indicted by the Knox County Grand Jury last June for murder, an unclassified felony, with a firearm specification, and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony.
Remillard’s trial will focus on the death of his cousin, 20-year-old Nick Remillard, whose body was found in an abandoned swimming pool behind the Gaskin Avenue home in Gambier where the pair had been living in June 2017.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for Remillard, who was believed to suffer from mental health issues. Remillard went on the run for three days before turning himself in to the Mount Vernon Police Department with his lawyer. He informed an officer at the time of medical issues and was transported to the Knox Community Hospital where he was medically cleared.
In August, Knox County Common Pleas Court Judge Richard Wetzel found Remillard competent to stand trial after a mental health evaluation was completed.
