MANSFIELD — Phoenix Hunter is making the most of his youth.
The 8-year-old Mansfield boy was asked to be a part of the music video for song “Youth” by Shawn Mendes.
The video, which debuted at 10 a.m. on Monday, revolves around the heartbreak Mendes has seen in the news lately. However, there is still a reason for hope in the future. It depicts youth-aged individuals doing magic, having debates, being activists and dancing among other activities.
At the 2:30 minute mark, Phoenix, a student at Madison’s Eastview Elementary School, is seen pulling a sport utility vehicle.
“Waking up to headlines filled with devastation again,” the Canadian pop star sings while shots of Parkland shooting survivors are shown. “My heart is broken but I keep going.”Â
Kahlid is featured on the track.Â
Phoenix’s father said his son went to New Jersey to shoot the video in April.
Phoenix was not available for comment at the time of publication.
“It was sweet,” his father Eric Hunter said. “We were messaged through Facebook. It was definitely crazy. Out of the norm for us. We never thought he’d be in a Shawn Mendez music video.”Â
Hunter said the video took a few days to be shot.
Phoenix’s ability to pull a truck went viral after he pulled a vehicle on Little Big Shots with Steve Harvey. Before that, he pulled a 5,300 pound Chevy Silverado at Graham’s Auto Mall.
The music video can be seen on iTunes.
