MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon holiday parade has been canceled due to weather concerns, according to a press release issued at 8:53 a.m. by Lisa Lloyd of Experience Mount Vernon.
The release in its entirety is pasted below:
“We have been closely monitoring the forecast for this afternoon/evening and have unfortunately made the decision to cancel the Holiday Parade, Food Trucks, and Lighting of Public Square Ceremony.
“Due to the rain and wind conditions predicted during the timing of these events we do not feel it is wise or safe for either the parade participants or spectators to be outside (especially for participants who would have to be standing outside for a long time before the parade kicks-off).
“We are very saddened that we have to cancel the outside events, but we will still have a few Holiday activities planned for this afternoon including It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play at the Memorial Theater at 1 p.m. (tickets required), there will be carolers at 4:30 p.m. while kids can write letters to Santa at the Grand Hotel, some merchants will be open for Holiday activities and unique ornaments ,and Santa will still be available for pictures from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the lower lobby of the Grand Hotel.
“We apologize for this inconvenience (we almost made it an entire year without having to cancel an event!). “
Happy Holidays to all of you!
