MOUNT VERNON – The Knox County Court House will be open to the public on Saturday, Sept. 17 as part of the Ohio History Connection’s Open Doors program.
Beginning at 1 p.m., history seekers will be invited to explore the building. Court staff will be on hand to answer questions until the conclusion of the event at 4 p.m.
Built in 1855, the Knox County Court House is home to the General and Probate-Juvenile divisions of the Knox County Common Pleas Court today. Still in use today, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and boasts three court rooms with ornate hardwood and era appropriate décor.
The building stands as an example of Greek Revival Architecture.
The Open Doors program is presented by the State Historic Preservation Office and aims to honor the history, design and stories of local buildings and landmarks. No reservation is necessary to attend the event.
