CENTERBURG — Marigold on Main owner Shannon Weisbrod said she has an appreciation for the 1940s.

The vintage clothes and warm colors bring Weisbrod back to a time when she said she wanted to grow up and live, in the post-World War II world.

“I’m an old soul at heart,” Weisbrod said.

Weisbrod gets to live that dream at Marigold on Main, a new clothing and home shop on Main Street in Centerburg. Boutique garments fill clothing racks along with season-appropriate Christmas decorations.

The brick building is small in space but packs tons of local goods alongside clothing fitted for the winter season.

Marigold on Main “soft launched” in early October, giving Weisbrod time to become acquainted with the space and operating a small business.

A resident of Centerburg, Weisbrod also said it allowed her to get to know people throughout the community.

Starting a business in this economy had led to nerves, but what’s keeping her in the store day in and day out is having a “why.”

“You have to have a why,” she said.

Weisbrod said her “why” is persistence and bringing back small mom-and-pop shops, and having her husband and three children by her side has helped.

In a way,  Weisbrod said she sees herself as part of a movement to bring small businesses back in Centerburg, particularly brick-and-mortar stores.

Property owners HK Properties aren’t just landlords for her, she said. Instead, it’s a partnership to help her business grow.

“I couldn’t do it without such a great support system,” Weisbrod said. “It’s nice to have property owners willing to work with small businesses.”
