MOUNT VERNON – MVFD Chief Chad Christopher says a firefighter injured his right ankle while battling flames at a house fire in the 800 block of West Vine Street Sunday afternoon. At 3:08 p.m. crews from MVPD and Fredericktown Fire and EMS were dispatched to the two-story residence.
When they arrived firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor windows on the front and east side of the home. The residents got out of the home prior to the fire department’s arrival. The flames were located in a second floor bedroom and the fire was quickly extinguished.
The home suffered fire damage to the second floor and water damage to the first floor.
The injured firefighter was taken to Knox Community Hospital. The Red Cross was called in to assist the residents.
