COLUMBUS — Driving through northern Ohio, bright fall color stretches along the roadways and fills the tree canopies.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) says sugar maples are still blazing with spectacular hues, while dogwoods are settling into rich, velvety reds and purples.

“Even though it has been warm the past few days, this weekend we will see a drastic change in temperatures which should really catapult the fall color transformation in the state,” said ODNR Fall Color Forester David Parrott.

“Our fall color reporters are beginning to see ‘near peak’ conditions, especially in Northern Ohio.”

Disc golf is one of the best activities to do in the fall with more than 30 courses in Ohio’s state parks and surrounded by the backdrop of autumn colors.

Located in northeast Ohio, the 838-acre Findley State Park was once a state forest and remains heavily wooded with stately pines and various hardwoods. Popular with hikers and mountain bikers, the park’s trail system includes a connection to the statewide Buckeye Trail.

The trails are lovely in all seasons, but particularly inviting during autumn and spring.

The disc golf courses at Findley are ranked annually as some of the top in Ohio. The park’s two courses include the original (red basket) par 57 course and the Lost Island par 61 course as well as 6 bonus alphabet baskets, which provide several options for players of all levels.

These courses are intertwined and very wooded, making them particularly scenic in the fall – just don’t get distracted mid-throw or while you’re lining up a putt.
