MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Suicide Prevention Coalition rescheduled its 16th annual race at Ariel-Foundation Park to Sunday, Nov. 15.

The Sept. 12 event was postponed due to weather.

Race-day registration and packet pickup start at 1:30 p.m. at the Kiwanis pavilion. Races start at 3 p.m. For those who registered for the original race, their entrance fee will be honored. Click here to register online.

A remembrance ceremony will start at 2:30 p.m. at the Rastin Tower. Families and friends are encouraged to bring a picture of their loved one to share.

The race benefits the Knox County Suicide Prevention Coalition, a nonprofit, charitable organization dedicated to reducing the rate of suicide in Knox County and connecting those at risk with resources and support. The volunteer-based organization offers grief support, information on available resources, and referrals to community services.

The walk and run is to bring attention to awareness and prevention of suicide. Suicide affects all walks of life. Coalition members want to send a clear message that there is hope and support available.

The coalition asks the community to make a difference and invites walkers, runners, joggers, dogs, children’s activities, and strollers of all ages to participate.

Those who are unable to walk or run are invited to come support a great cause and start the conversation. Funds raised from this event will provide the education needed to identify the common causes of suicidal behavior, the warning signs, and how to help someone in crisis.
