MOUNT VERNON – Residents of Knox County and surrounding areas can now access a cutting‑edge new robotic‑assisted bronchoscopy platform as part of Knox Community Hospital’s fight against lung cancer.

KCH announced this week that it is one of the first facilities in Ohio to use the groundbreaking Galaxy System for earlier diagnosis of lung cancer.

Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in the United States and the leading cause of cancer deaths in the country. But today, it can be difficult for physicians to properly find and biopsy lung nodules, delaying diagnosis and complicating treatment.

Noah Medical’s Galaxy System is designed in collaboration with physicians to improve lung cancer diagnosis. It is a state‑of‑the‑art, robotic‑assisted bronchoscopy platform that enables physicians to navigate to and locate lung nodules with greater precision and accuracy than current platforms.

The Galaxy System enables precision targeting for greater confidence in tool‑in‑lesion confirmation, leading to improved diagnostic success. This procedure can diagnose the cancer early without the need for invasive surgery.

Using the Galaxy System, KCH pulmonologist Dr. Emad Kowatli can diagnose and treat lung nodules sooner and reduce the potential for cross‑contamination from improperly cleaned reusable scopes because of the Galaxy System’s single‑use, disposable bronchoscope.

“Lung cancer is a devastating disease that impacts far too many individuals and families in our community,” Kowatli said.

“Previous technology often made it difficult to accurately detect and locate small lesions in the lungs. The Galaxy System streamlines the entire process, offering a more precise and efficient approach to diagnosis and treatment.

“Early detection of lung cancer is so important to achieve a complete cure, and robotic bronchoscopy is the first step to achieve this. This advancement brings new hope to patients across Ohio.”
