MOUNT VERNON — From cockatiels and cats to ferrets and fish, We Lov Pets has served both the human and animal community in Mount Vernon for the past 20 years.
On Oct. 2, the store will invite customers and local residents to join in it’s anniversary celebration.
A ribbon cutting and 20th anniversary celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. invites the public to come freely celebrate the store’s birthday. The ribbon cutting will begin at noon.
On Oct. 3 — the store will host a customer appreciation event from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. to celebrate everyone who has offered their support the past 20 years. The event will include a 20 percent off storewide discount, a free goodie bag for the first 100 guests and a variety of other discounts and offers.
Supporting the community
Since it’s opening in April 2006, the store has become known for it’s diverse selection of pet goods, including a vast array of items for small and exotic animals.
Mount Vernon Store Manager Shayne Foster has been with the company for seven of those years, and said the community has grown rapidly in the past few.
“We have a place where everyone feels welcome and is getting the knowledge that they need if they have any questions,” Foster said.
That community connection is an important aspect for the business.
“We like to be part of the community, whether it’s the Sponsler-Donley Trunk-or-Treat or a side quest with another small business in town,” Foster said.
We Lov Pets also has a consistent presence at Mount Vernon First Fridays and recently helped with the second annual Pooch Plunge at the Hiawatha Water Park.
The store also works with 4-H kids who are involved with breeding projects and maintains a number of partnerships with local organizations and businesses.
For example, the store covers the cost of dog food for K-9 Units across the county, including The City of Mount Vernon Police Department, the Knox County Sheriff and the Danville Police Department.
Foster said We Lov Pets is currently in the process of creating it’s own website and having a live inventory.
“Customers could ask us to set things aside and if we have any elderly or handicap customers … they can request us to bring it out to the front,” Foster said.
We Lov Pets invites the community to it’s Oct. 2 anniversary celebration to rejoice in the past 20 years and look forward to 20 more.
