James “Jim” Trowbridge, age 88, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Knox Community Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on December 17, 1937, in Mount Vernon to the late Charles A. and Marie (Mumaw) Trowbridge. Jim was a proud United States Army Veteran. His service and dedication to his country are permanently honored with a brick in the Veterans Walk on the Public Square in Mount Vernon. An avid sports fan, Jim loved Cleveland sports and closely followed the Guardians, Browns, and Cavaliers.
Whenever a game was on, he could always be found listening or watching. Jim also shared his love for the game with the community by coaching Little League baseball for many years. He earned the lifelong love and respect of his players, many of whom still fondly called him “Coach.” He spoke often of his final year coaching in 1976, when he led the Knox County Savings Bank team to win the City Championship. Jim cherished spending time with lifelong friends and reminiscing about their youth. He shared a special, enduring bond with his best friend since childhood, Walter Butler. The two kept in close contact through the years, easily talking for hours and picking up right where their last conversation left off.
He is survived by his three children, James Craig Trowbridge, Charles Douglas (Mildred) Trowbridge, and Kathy M. Trowbridge, all of Mount Vernon; three grandchildren, Justin (Jackie), Jennifer (Adam), and Angie (Ty); and six great-grandchildren, Raylene, Reece, Ryan, Addy, Carter, and Kiannah.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary E. Trowbridge, in 2021, and his brother, Larry Trowbridge.
There will be no calling hours. Entombment for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, with Mr. Roger Marra officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
